How to Generate and Add XML Sitemap to Your Blog/Website

The XML Sitemap file is like a directory of all web pages that exist on your website or blog. Search engines like Google and Bing can use these sitemap files to discover pages on your site that the search bots may have otherwise missed during regular crawling.

This method is valid for both regular Blogger blogs (that use a .blogspot.com address) and also the self-hosted Blogger blogs that use a custom domain.

How to Generate an XML Sitemap

1. Goto xml-sitemaps generator site. 
2. Simply enter your website URL (e.g., http://technewsbit.blogspot.com/ ).
3. Press Start, the system crawls your site, then provides you with downloadable site map.

This particular tool only work for site with less than 500 pages, comapany also sells $20 PHP based sitemap generator.

Before you submit your sitemap to google and bing (don't need to worry about Yahoo), But to make sure all search engines can find it, you should also reference sitemaps in you robots.txt file 

Add Sitemap to Your Website

1. Go to google webmaster tools. Create an account on google if you don't have one.
2. Sign-in and you will be taken straight to webmasters account.
3. Start by clicking add a site button, type your website domain name (include www) and click continue
4. Now google wants you to prove that you own this site, and provides several ways to do this.

• Add a DNS record to your domain configuration
• Link to your google analytics account
• add a meta tag to your site's home page 

     5. Choose the recommended method, download the HTML verification file and upload it              to your website and confirm verification by clicking on given link.

     6. In Google webmaster tools, Click on your previously added website and navigate to                  Sitemaps under  Site configuration menu.

     7. Type sitemap.xml in the field and click on Submit Sitemap.

Google will load that sitemap and often will check it immediately. Google will read your sitemap and use it to help find its way around your website but it will also provide interesting information about your site. Give it some time to collect information.

Target Hack Tips

Target hack: Tips for all customers

The holiday hack Target made public last month stole 40 million credit and debit cards. But it also broke into Target's massive database of information on 70 million customers, the store said Friday.

While hackers only stole credit and debit card data from shoppers at U.S. stores between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15, they also grabbed details on people who shopped there before that.

"The possibilities are so much greater now that this other information has been compromised,"

 said Consumer Federation of America advocate Susan Grant.

Target said it has an ongoing investigation and does not know how far back the database goes.

Be on your guard: Now that the criminals have three ways to contact you, expect to get fake phone calls, emails and letters in the mail. They'll be asking for your personal information and telling you to click on links. Don't do it, even if it looks official.

Instead, take the advice of NTT Com Security consultant Chris Camejo and go directly to the source. If a person calls you, claims to be with your bank and says you've been affected by the Target hack, hang up. Then call the bank number on your credit card to resolve the issue.

Similarly, if you get an email that seems official, don't click on any links. If it claims to be Target, just go to Target.com/databreach. Target is posting all true communication with customers there. If it claims to be your bank or anyone else, ignore the email and go straight to the Target website. Type in the address yourself.
